T Book Club consists of articles and discussions dedicated to classic works of American literature. For this round of the series, we’re focusing on New York City novels, meaning ones that aren’t only set, at least in part, in New York but that have something to say about the city itself. Here, a (virtual) event, on the topic of Paula Fox’s 1970 novel, “Desperate Characters,” featuring the writer Sigrid Nunez in conversation with T’s deputy digital editor, Kate Guadagnino, and taking place at 7 p.m. E.D.T. on Aug. 4.
