One Killed in Bus Crash in Upstate New York, Police Say

One person was killed and about a dozen passengers were injured, at least one seriously, when a tour bus traveling from Montreal rolled over on an upstate New York highway near Lake George on Friday, officials said.

The crash occurred shortly before 1 p.m., when a Skyway Coach Lines bus went off the road between Exits 22 and 23 on Interstate 87, the New York State Police said in a statement. There were 23 people onboard, including the driver, it said.

In addition to the death, one passenger had serious injuries and 10 had injuries that were not life threatening, the statement said. A State Police spokeswoman said separately that one passenger had been airlifted to Albany Medical Center in critical condition.

A spokesman for Glens Falls Hospital said 12 people with less serious injuries had been taken there for treatment.

A section of the highway where the bus rolled over was closed to traffic while emergency services workers responded to the crash and would remain that way for some time, officials said.

“I join the people of New York in praying for the well-being of all involved in this horrific incident,” Gov. Kathy Hochul said in a statement.

It was not immediately clear what caused the bus to roll over. It was the only vehicle involved in the crash, officials said.

In its statement, the State Police asked for the help of anyone who might have witnessed the crash, seen the bus before it rolled over or recorded any dashboard camera footage of the episode.
